Elegiac Wound is an entity based out of Hamilton, Ontario. Wounds work continuously expands on subjective explorations into decay, metamorphose, rot, abhorrence, abominations, self-hate and ugliness. Wounds body of work vomits realms of repugnance with elegance through a careful articulation of highly detailed figures in vehement uncanny scenes.
E.W. uses instinctive mark making to gradually sculpt the physicality of its subjects, sourcing inspiration from 15th - 18th century ecclesiastic engravings, feeding into his sought balance of grace and grotesque. E.W. also takes visual inspiration from its morbid underground black metal/death metal fixations. The development of his art is the result of a fleshed-out fixation on the postmortem and the stages of rot that precede and ensue. Molding an aesthetic that plays with the grotesque offers neutrality towards personal ugliness, being a muse for self-hate, subjective misanthropic visions, and disgust while ultimately acting as a vehicle of monomaniac worship.
